Take Care of Your Home so You can Relax!

Summer Home Maintenance

Here comes Summer!

I hope you have some fun adventures planned! While at home, take some time to check on these common maintenance items to keep your home looking beautiful, even while you are away!

  1. Replace Furnace Filter
Swap out filters every 1–3 months to improve air quality and reduce allergens—especially if you have pets or allergies.

  2. Clean Gutters & Downspouts
Remove leaves and debris, flush with water, and check for cracks or sagging. This prevents water damage and keeps drainage working properly.

  3. Check for Animal Damage
Walk the exterior and look for signs like chewed wood, holes, or nests. Seal small openings and repair any damage to prevent future intrusions.

  4. Inspect Attic Vents & Fans
Ensure vents aren’t blocked and fans turn on/off properly. Clear dust and check for wear to keep airflow strong and prevent mold.

  5. Trim Trees & Shrubs
Cut back overhanging branches and dense shrubs to avoid roof damage, pest access, and moisture buildup.

  6. Clean & Organize the Garage
Early Summer is ideal for clearing out clutter and deep cleaning—aim for a dry, sunny weekend. Check out some tips for this one here from Cut the Clutter RVA!

  7. Wipe Down Exterior Lights
Clean off dirt and bugs to improve brightness and boost curb appeal.
